The scent of Juniper Berries has a long history of use as a diuretic. It's in the volatile oil where the active diuretic principles of Juniper berries reside. The American Indians believed in Juniper's cleansing and healing powers and used it to keep away infection, relieve arthritis and heal various wounds and illnesses. Being a moderate circulatory stimulant, it has on occasions served well in certain types of rheumatic disorders when these were due to diminished circulation and general toxicity. Being an excellent antiseptic, Juniper berries, when used in a combination, are very helpful with conditions such as cystitis to remove acid and toxic wastes. The berries can improve impaired digestion and strengthen weak stomachs.
NOTE: Avoid during pregnancy, as it has a strong vaso-dilating, diuretic effect.
